How to hire a skip

If you’ve never hired a skip before don’t worry, we are here to help. Please read the below.

How much do you charge for a skip?

Click here for our price list but please be aware that prices differ depending on the content of the skip as well as just the size.

Our standard skip hire service includes delivery, one week rental, collection and recycling at our licensed waste transfer station.

What size skip do I need?

It can be difficult to ascertain the size of the skip you need. For a clear out of small, non bulky materials we can provide 3yd mini skips and 4yd builders skips. For a good house clearance or garage clearout we can provide larger size 6yd and 8yd skips, good for the odd bits of furniture. With good use of the space inside the skip you’d be amazed at how much can go in there. Please call us on 01983 525515 and we can help advise from a 3yd to a 20yd skip. We request the skips are filled level to the top. An overloaded skip can be deemed as an unsafe load to travel along the public highway with, so we ask that care is taken not to overload the container.

How long can I keep the skip for?

The skip is yours for up to 7 days from the day of delivery but longer terms can be negotiated as we know that these jobs can be affected by the weather and circumstance. If the skips is needed for longer than the 7 day hire period please let us know when ordering.

What can I put in the skip?

  • General waste (general household waste like furniture, cookers, old items of clothing, toys etc),
  • Inert waste (like bricks, blocks, soil, clay, sand, drywall and concrete),
  • Wood,
  • Metal
  • Builders Waste (which is often a combination of the above)

What am I not allowed to put in the skip?

No Fridges, TV’s or monitors, hazardous waste (which includes paints, solvents, liquids or asbestos). If you’re unsure that your waste is suitable, give us a call.

I need a skip on my drive, how wide is your lorry?

We need at least a 2.7 meters or 9 feet gap to get in to your property. Preferably we need to be able to back square on to your driveway or opening, it helps us to know if your street is narrow or people park opposite.

Do I need a road permit?

If a skip is placed on the public highway off of your private property a license from Island Roads will be required that can be dealt with by Westridge. The current cost of a license for 7 days is £15.86. They require 10 clear working days notice. Also, lights and cones are required and can be provided by ourselves.

When and how do I pay?

We accept payment by credit or debit card over the phone when ordering or cash or cheque to the driver on delivery of the skips.

What happens to my waste? Is it recycled?

All skips are collected and tipped at our waste transfer station where the waste is put through the largest mechanical picking station on the Island where recyclables are pulled from the main waste stream.
